It arrived. Finally. The event was 35 years in the making. My college commencement took 35 years to materialize. CSU, Sacramento. Love you Sac State! Your mature, stately trees, squirrels, and the buzz that is in the atmosphere of a university campus. I spent two years on this campus. Two amazing years. My journey through academia was a 6-campus evolutionary process. First, one community college, followed by a different community college. Couldn’t get my bearings…my choice of what to major in. Stay-at-home moms rarely find much time to follow collegiate pursuits, and I was no exception. In the years that I devoted to being with my young kids, I completed one upper division English class.
The ensuing years brought college classes on three more campuses until I reached the pinnacle of success. Commencement in December, 2008, complete with my B.A. in Communication Studies. Complete joy.
Who’s that fresh-faced college student standing there? Oh, it’s you! 😉
What a great day to remember.
I am glad you are there beside me. What joy!
I can only tell you have gone through the process of getting a degree — how proud I am of what you did–to never give up and to move forward always looking to the future–very very proud–
¡mil gracias! I don’t consider myself a quitter. I have definitely felt defeat. Such a sweet moment…I am reminded of this event each time I stare at my framed degree.
Hard work pays off. Might sound like a tired cliche, but it’s true. I know how much it meant to you to attain that, so I am very happy for you that you accomplished it.
